The Southwestern
Pennsylvania AIDS Planning Coalition (SWPAPC) has initiated a project
funded by the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for Faith-Based
Organizations/Churches to assess the need, plan and build capacity for
HIV/AIDS and/or substance abuse prevention initiatives in the African-American
community. It is our hope that this project will lead to the implementation
of programs and provide services in support of individuals living with
this disease.
The Morning Light Project is designed to:
- Perform needs assessment for African-Americans with HIV/AIDS or that
are abusing drugs in order to build and sustain capacity
- Plan and implement culturally competent African-American Faith-Based
community programming and services
- Foster dialogue in order to continue to make progress in fighting
this disease and its implications by planning and facilitating focus
groups
- Establish a resource network and knowledge base for area Faith-Based
Organizations/Churches to utilize in their programming and services
- Mobilize Faith-Based Organizations/Churches into action in support
of individuals/families with HIV/AIDS and/or substance abuse related
issues.
